Description
The ROMA test, also known as the Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm, is a tool used to estimate the likelihood of ovarian cancer in women with an already identified ovarian mass. It is not a screening test for ovarian cancer in the general population.
The ROMA score combines the results of three factors:
- HE4 (Human Epididymis Protein 4): A blood marker sometimes elevated in ovarian cancer
 - CA-125 (Cancer Antigen 125): Another blood marker, though not specific to ovarian cancer, that can be raised in various conditions.
 - Menopausal Status: Premenopausal and postmenopausal

Important Points to Remember:
- ROMA is not a definitive diagnostic test. It should be used in conjunction with other clinical and radiological evaluations, such as pelvic ultrasounds.
 - A low ROMA score does not completely rule out ovarian cancer, especially if other symptoms are present.
 - ROMA is not validated for certain groups, including women with a history of cancer, pregnant women, and those under 18.
 - The decision to proceed with surgery should be made by a physician considering all available information.
